Numark is pleased to announce the availability of a brand new dispensing error reporting service provided free of charge to all Numark members.
Pharmapod is a global, market leading, cloud based incident reporting system that allows the pharmacy team to record medication related incidents and complete the route-cause analysis to identify contributing factors.
The Pharmapod system is designed to work on either a tablet or desktop making it compatible with all types of pharmacy practice.
The Pharmapod solution is an intuitive and profession specific platform designed to fit easily with the day to day operation of a busy pharmacy and support pharmacy teams in meeting the professional and legislative requirements when an incident has occurred.
The Pharmapod resource will enable Numark members to evidence compliance with all professional standards associated with incident management and recording during a GPhC or PSNI inspection.
The launch of the Pharmapod system will support Numark’s Medication Safety Officer Status and will enable us to collate and analyse incident data to identify key trends in error reporting. These trends could include identification of the most common selection errors, frequently reported contributing factors, and the most commonly reported incident types such as wrong drug, strength or form.
Numark will regularly update members of the trends identified to enable pharmacy teams to put effective steps in place to mitigate the risk of these errors occurring in their own pharmacy.
Patient safety and reducing the risk of medication related harm is a key priority both professionally and politically with the World Health Organisation Challenge “Medication without Harm” and the Department of Health and Social Care Report of the Short Life Working Group on Reducing Medication Harm- both of which acknowledge that medication errors can occur at any point in the medication cycle and the impact of these errors can be dramatic dependent on the nature of the incident.
The availability of the Pharmapod solution provides Numark members with an additional tool to support the delivery of a patient safety culture within their pharmacy whilst also evidencing compliance with professional standards and guidance.
